The Oyo/Osun Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has expressed profound loss of a dedicated officer, Superintendent of Customs, Kabiru Tijani, who died along with his wife and four children in a midnight fire outbreak in his Ede, Osun State residence.
Thenewsbearer gathered that the heartbreaking incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, December 2, 2024, at about 3am.
In a statement by the Public Relations Officer, SC Kayode Wey, the death of Tijani, who was the Officer in charge of operations in Oyo/Osun Area Command until the incident occurred, was described as tragic.
The late O/C Operations was a dedicated officer with an unwavering commitment to duty, particularly in coordinating and executing successful anti-smuggling operations.
He was said to have greatly contributed to the success of the Command, while his wife, an active member of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) Oyo/Osun Chapter, was equally admired for her contributions to the welfare of the Customs community.
Meanwhile, the Area Command said that it had begun investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire incident, while urging the public to ignore speculative reports.
“In the wake of this incident, the Oyo/Osun Area Command wishes to address speculative reports regarding the inferno.
“We urge the public to disregard such unfounded reports, as our priority remains to provide support to the bereaved extended family, the lone child survivor and to further investigate the circumstances surrounding this fatal incident.
“The Customs Area Controller, Dr Ben Oramalugo, on behalf of the Officers and Men of the Oyo/Osun Area Command, deeply commiserate with the family and friends of the deceased.
“He further appreciates the prayers and support from the members of the public,” the PRO said in the statement.
He disclosed that SC Tijani and his family members had since been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
“May the Almighty grant them Al-Janatul Firdaus and give their family the strength to endure this immense loss,” the statement read further.
