Three suspects have been arrested by policemen in Ogun State Police Command in connection with the diversion of goods valued at N4.7 million belonging to Hayat Kimya Company.
The names of the suspects were given as Oluwaseyi Oyetunde, Segun Oluwaseun and Chijioke Ogbu.
Confirming the arrest in a statement on Sunday, September 5, 2021, the command’s spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that the arrest resulted from a report made by one Oluwatosin Ayodeji at Agbara divisional headquarters on August 29 that Oyetunde, a driver to the company, loaded goods worth of 4.7 million naira to be delivered to a customer in Lagos, but absconded with the goods and the truck since August 24.
The PPRO further stated that the report made the Divisional Police Officer in Agbara division, SP Saleh Dahiru, to detail his crack detectives to unravel the mystery behind the sudden disappearance of the driver and the goods.
The team had reportedly embarked on intelligence-based investigation and traced the driver and the truck to Lagos State where he was promptly arrested with the empty truck.
On interrogation, Oyeyemi disclosed, the driver confessed that he diverted the goods to those who bought them from him at a give-away price.
“His confession led the policemen to the shops of the two receivers, Segun Oluwaseun and Chijioke Ogbu, where parts of the stolen goods were recovered and the two receivers arrested,” he said.
In his reaction, the Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun ordered an investigation into the case for the recovery of the remaining stolen goods, after which the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.
