Sunday, April 5, 2026: The Kaduna State Police Command has clarified that the recent explosion involving a bus in the state was caused by an overfilled gas cylinder and not a bomb blast.
The incident, which occurred at a motor park in Kaduna, had initially sparked fear among residents, with many suspecting a possible terrorist attack due to the loud impact of the explosion.
However, police authorities said preliminary investigations revealed that the explosion originated from a gas-powered vehicle, dismissing claims of any improvised explosive device being involved.
According to the command, the blast was a result of excessive pressure in the vehicle’s gas system, likely caused by overfilling, which triggered the incident.
The police further described the explosion as a “minor” gas-related occurrence rather than an act of terrorism, urging the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.
Authorities also advised operators of gas-powered vehicles to adhere strictly to safety regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The clarification comes amid heightened security concerns in parts of northern Nigeria, where explosions are often quickly linked to insurgent activity.
