A 39-year-old man, Oladapo Akinola was on Monday, September 20, 2021, arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command for allegedly defiling his five-year-old stepdaughter (namewithheld).
The command’s image-maker, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in press statement on Tuesday, September 21, that the suspect was arrested following a report lodged at Adigbe divisional headquarters by the mother of the victim, who reported that while bathing her daughter, she discovered blood in her private part.
On enquiry from the little girl, she informed her mother that her husband who happened to be the stepfather of the victim, had unlawfully carnal knowledge of her.
The PPRO said that the report made the Divisional Police Officer, Adigbe division, SP Fatoberu Oyekanmi to direct his detectives to the scene where the suspect was arrested.
During interrogation, the suspect, who was reside at Adewale Drive, Shokori, Abeokuta, confessed to the crime without any justifiable reason.
Oyeyemi said that the victim had been taken to hospital by the police for medical treatment and report .
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
The police commissioner warned parents, especially mothers, to always be watchful of their female children in order to protect them from being victims of sexual assault.
