A 35-year-old man, Abidemi Oluwaseun, is currently cooling his heels in police detention in Ogun State Command for allegedly invading a public school with thugs and a cutlass to attack a teacher whom he accused of beating his 15-year-old daughter.
The suspect was arrested on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, with two others, identified as Fayesele Olabanji (25) and Alebiosu Quawiyu (24).
Confirming the arrest, the police image-maker in the command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that the principal of Baptist Girls College, Idi Aba ,Abeokuta, had made a distress call to the police that three men invaded the school with an unregistered vehicle, armed with brand new cutlass and threatening to inflict cuts on a school teacher.
The call, the PPRO stated, made the Divisional Police Officer of Kemta division, CSP Opebiyi Sunday, to mobilize his men.
He said further that the policemen went to the school and apprehended the three within the premises.
Recovered from them were the unregistered Toyota car and the cutlass.
Oyeyemi said that when interrogated, Oluwaseun confirmed hiring the other two men to come with him to the school, in order to make the teacher learn a lesson for beating his daughter.
Preliminary investigation was said to have revealed that, while the teacher was taking a class, some of the students, including the suspect’s daughter, were mocking him and distracting other students.
“The teacher, after identifying those disturbing the class, cained them as a corrective measure, but the suspect’s daughter went home and reported to her father, consequent upon which he mobilized two thugs and stormed the school with cutlass,” the PPRO said.
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had ordered that the suspects be properly investigated and charged to court as soon as possible.
He also warned that the command under his watch would not tolerate such unruly behavior in any public or private institution, as such would amount to taking laws into one’s hands.
