Four suspected land grabbers, who allegedly unleashing violence on the people of Babaode-Onibuku community in Ado Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, were arrested by police operatives on Wednesday, May 2021 .
The suspects were identified as Najimu Ojumola (42), Monday Olaleye (25), Kehinde Martins (34) and Felix John (27).
According to the command’s spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, while speaking on Thursday, May 27, the suspects were apprehended following a distress call received by the police at Onipanu divisional headquarters, that Babaode-Onibuku village was under a siege by group of land grabbers who invaded the village with dangerous weapons, and held residents of the community hostage.
“Upon the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer at Onipanu division, CSP Bamidele Job, quickly mobilised his men and moved to the scene for rescue operation.
“On getting to the scene, the hoodlums launched an attack on the policemen and injured one ASP Tajudeen Adeleke and Inspector Babatunde Olayiwola, but were later subdued, and two among them, Najimu Ojumola and Monday Olaleye, were apprehended.
“While the policemen were taking the arrested hoodlums to the station, their colleagues ambushed the policemen at Idiroko road, and attacked them, with a view to set free the arrested ones.
“They were subsequently dispersed and the duo of Felix John and Kehinde Martins were equally arrested,” the PPRO said.
Recovered from the suspects were eight expended cartridges, a live cartridge, a cutlass, three Bajaj motorcycles and a Toyota Corolla car with registration number FST 42 FT.
Oyeyemi added that the Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun had ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
Warning the land grabbers to steer clear, Ajogun said that the command would not allow any form of thuggery and hooliganism to disrupt the peace of the state.
