A self-confessed cultist, Amadesu Victor, has been arrested by operatives of Delta State Police Command while he was negotiating with suspected kidnappers on the purchase of an AK-47 rifle to fulfil his ambition of becoming the Number One of Vikings Confraternity.
There had been agreement on N1.3 million as the price of the rifle when the suspect was caught, Thenewsbearerlearnt.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the command, SP Bright Edafe, who spoke on the arrest of the suspect, said that he was apprehended when the operatives were trailing suspected kidnappers.
According to Edafe, on getting to the hideout of the criminals they were searching for, the operatives saw 5 man negotiating the purchase of an Ak-47 rifle for N1.3 million.
During interrogation, the suspect claimed to be lobbying for the Number One position in Vikings Confraternity, disclosing that one of the requirements for such a position is to own at least one AK-47 rifle.
During an interview, Victor confessed: “I was arrested as I was trying to buy AK-47 rifle. I was asked to get one when I was aiming to become Number One in Vikings (Confraternity).
“I wanted to buy it for N1.3 million. I was arrested in a hotel while negotiating the purchase of the rifle. “
When asked about what he was doing for living, the suspect claimed to have a car wash business.
“I also practise internet fraud popularly referred to as Yahoo. I used to deceive old and white women that I love them and would like to come and meet them.
“Sometimes, I would get up to N8 million, and I have those I share the money with as they were connecting me with the business.
“It’s from the fraud proceeds that I intended to buy the AK-47 rifle,” he said.
The suspect further disclosed that “I have been in the cult group for six years. I was assigned the commission to purchase the rifle when others saw that I had money.”
He expressed regret, saying: “I feel very sad. Now, I know that I didn’t achieve anything by being a cultist.”
SP Edafe advised parents and guardians to be on the watchout, as most suspects start from mixing with bad friends.
“From there, they migrate to internet fraud, cultism, aquiring of arms, and finally, when Yahoo stops bringing them much money, they move to kidnapping and armed robbery,” he said.
