‎Police detain Jigawa man for allegedly burning father to death

‎April 6, 2026: The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Kabiru Nuhu, for allegedly setting his 60-year-old father ablaze in Kazaure Local Government Area of the state.

‎The incident, which occurred on April 1, 2026, at about 6:30 a.m. in Magama Quarters, Kazaure town, was confirmed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam.
‎
‎According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly poured a flammable substance, suspected to be petrol, on his father before setting him on fire.
‎
‎The victim was reportedly rescued and rushed to a hospital for treatment but later died from injuries sustained in the attack.
‎
‎Police operatives arrested the suspect shortly after the incident. Authorities noted that he had visible burn injuries and wounds on parts of his body at the time of arrest.
‎
‎The police described the case as a suspected act of patricide and said the suspect would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further investigation and prosecution.
‎
‎The Commissioner of Police in the state, Haruna Yahaya, condemned the incident and assured the public that justice would be served.
‎
‎He also urged residents to adopt peaceful means of resolving disputes and to report any signs of domestic violence to security agencies.
‎
‎Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack.
