April 6, 2026: The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Kabiru Nuhu, for allegedly setting his 60-year-old father ablaze in Kazaure Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, which occurred on April 1, 2026, at about 6:30 a.m. in Magama Quarters, Kazaure town, was confirmed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly poured a flammable substance, suspected to be petrol, on his father before setting him on fire.
The victim was reportedly rescued and rushed to a hospital for treatment but later died from injuries sustained in the attack.
Police operatives arrested the suspect shortly after the incident. Authorities noted that he had visible burn injuries and wounds on parts of his body at the time of arrest.
The police described the case as a suspected act of patricide and said the suspect would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Haruna Yahaya, condemned the incident and assured the public that justice would be served.
He also urged residents to adopt peaceful means of resolving disputes and to report any signs of domestic violence to security agencies.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack.
