Two persons kidnapped on Wednesday, August 30, at Oghara-Ugbenu link road in Delta State have been rescued by a team of police operatives in the state police command.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, who made this known on Sunday, September 3, said that the victims were rescued the following day at 11:30am.
Explaining the incident, Edafe said that a distress call was received by the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Oghara Division, CSP Olasunkanmi Musiliu, on the said date at about 1:30pm that two persons’ whereabouts was unknown, with the suspicion that they had been kidnapped.
This made the DPO, while working on credible information, to lead a combined team of police operatives of the Division, Anti-Cult Unit, SIB Unit, and the local vigilante groups into Oghara-Ugbenu Forest on the Thursday, August 31, at about 11:30 am.
“The operatives relentlessly combed the forest which forced the kidnappers to abandon the victims and escape. The operatives rescued the two kidnapped victims unhurt and have since been reunited with their families.
“Four live cartridges; one Tecno Spark phone; one ATM card; and three sim cards of different telecommunication networks were recovered from the scene,” the PPRO disclosed.

He said that efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects .
Also, on Friday, September 1, a suspected vandal, identified as Michael Danjuma, was arrested by the Safe Delta Squad, while a Beretta pistol was recovered from him.
The image-maker said that at about 7:30am on that day, after a complaint from a caller (name withheld), the Commander of the Squad detailed operatives who stormed the Ogbezoma Quarters, Okpanam where the suspect was arrested.
The PPRO stated: “Upon investigation, it was revealed that the 23-year-old suspect who is a native of Langtang in Plateau State but resides in Hausa Market by Custom Okpanam majors in vandalising cables.
“A search warrant was promptly executed at his premises, and upon a thorough search of his place of residence, the following exhibits were recovered: One Beretta Pistol; one magazine; some vandalised cables; two ATM Cards and one pair of steel scissors.
“The suspect is in custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.”

In a similar vein, while adhering to the directives of the Commissioner of Police, Wale Abass, to maintain alertness, adopt more visibility patrol and proactive policing within the command, a team of Eagle Net Special Squad operatives, acting on credible information, stormed a hideout at Isieke Quarters, Asaba, and arrested one Chimuanya Francis Onwusonye on August 31, at about 9:00am.
According to Edafe, the 30-year-old male suspect who resides in Onitsha, Anambra State, was searched on the spot and a Beretta pistol with four rounds of live ammunition was recovered from him.
This led to his being taken into custody while investigation is ongoing.
Commenting on state command’s achievements, CP Abass said that the command would not fold its arms and watch miscreants break the law.
Noting how the ember months are usually marked by an increase in the spate of crime, the police commissioner appealed to the general public to be very alert, with the reminder that security is everyone’s business.
CP Abass thereby solicited the support of the entire citizenry by their giving useful information to the police.
He reaffirmed that the command is proactive and working tirelessly to protect the lives and property of the state residents.
