A 45-year-old woman, Kafayat Lawal, is currently cooling her heels in police detention in Ogun State Command after she was arrested for killing her 17-year-old daughter, Ayomide Adekoya, by beating and stabbing her, after she accused her and her sister of sleeping outside the home.
The suspect was picked up on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, after the incident.
The police spokesman in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who spoke on the incident on Friday, July 30, said that the suspect was arrested after the Divisional Police Officer at Ogijo Division, CSP Mohammed Suleiman Baba got a call at about 2:30 pm that she locked her two daughters in a room, beat and injured them with a broken bottle.
On getting to the scene, DPO and his men rescued the two victims were rescued and took them to the hospital for treatment.
However, one of the daughters died while receiving treatment, leading to their mother b et informed taken into custody.
During interrogation, the suspect, who disclosed that she got separated from her children’s father nine years ago, informed the police that her two daughters left home during the Sallah celebration and didn’t return until the following day.
This, she said, infuriated her and made her to want to beat them, but the people around pleaded on their behalf.
In spite of this, she said that the children still went out again the following day and passed the night outside the home.
She added that it was in anger she locked them in and caused them injury with a broken bottle.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the older daughter, Blessing Adekoya (19) was injured in the hand, while her younger sister, Ayomide, was stabbed in the chest.
The State Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
