Lagos State Police Command’s efforts to maintain law and order at Gengere Community, Mile 12, got boosted on Thursday, May 6, 2021, as its operatives arrested 48 suspects in connection with the crisis that broke out among some hoodlums.
The police spokesman in the state, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who made this known in a statement, said that the arrests were made at about 1a.m.
Adejobi said that investigation revealed that one Aliyu Shuaibu, stabbed one Sadiq Oloyo, resulting in his death before any medical attention could be given to him.
“As a result of the incident, some hoodlums, on reprisal attack, went on rampage and caused commotion in the area,” he stated.
The development was said to have made the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, to direct the deployment of additional operatives to the area to restore normalcy, while 48 of the suspects were arrested.
Saying that the hoodlums should be made to face the full wrath of the law, Odumosu emphasised that it would serve as a deterrent to others who might want to foment trouble in the state.
It will be recalled that the state police boss had initially ordered the arrest of 13 leaders of the warring groups in the area on Tuesday May 4.
The leaders had been indicted in the lingering crisis which started rocking Gengere Community, Mile 12, Ketu, Lagos, on April, 30.
Odumosu affirmed that the command and other security agencies would adopt 24-hour patrol and surveillance in the area, until the culprits involved in the crisis had been brought to book, with total law and order restored.
He also warned that the command would not tolerate any act of violence and lawlessness in any part of the state, as all hands would be on deck to suppress any criminal act within the ambit of the law.
