A 28-year-old traffic robbery suspect, Ibrahim Ganiyu, a.k.a Temitomi, has been arrested by Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) at Brewery/Ijora area of the state.
This was just as te Taskforce served owners of structures and kiosks on Owode road setback a three-day removal notice.
Making this known in a statement on Thursday, August 26, 2021, the Taskforce Head, Public Affairs, Femi Moliki, said that the robbery suspect was arrested at about 5a.m., while attempting to dispossess a lady of her handbag and mobile phone.
Ibrahim, who operated with an accomplice named Akpan was apprehended when the operatives of Lagos State Taskforce heading towards Apapa sighted them.
The lady’s shout for help had reportedly drawn the attention of the police team which made them to foil the robbery with their arrival at the scene, with the two robbers fleeing the scene on a bike.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the Taskforce operatives gave them a chase and succeeded in arresting Ibrahim while Akpan abandoned a TVS motor cycle with the registration number AAA 535 QK and escaped.
Recovered from the suspect were a motor bike and a long dagger.
When interrogated, Ibrahim confessed that he and his gang members were trying to collect the lady’s phone and bag before she shouted for help.
He revealed that their mode of operation was to rob early in the morning and at night.
He stated that they used to rob in traffic and in bus stops around Costain, Mushin, Ijora and Eko Bridge, adding that, apart from his gang, some other teams come from Safejo and Alaba to rob in the area.
The Chairman, Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Shola Jejeloye, said that the suspect would be transfered to the state police command for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Lagos State Taskforce has served owners of structures and kiosks on road setback in Idera Bus Stop, Owode to remove them in three days.
The removal order is coming after several days of inspection of the area and education of the owners by the agency and officials of Federal Ministry of Works.
The owners of the structures and kiosks were last served notices in February 2021.
