The Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State, Michael Adaralewa, on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, urged private guards to always be at alert ahead of criminals through training, because of their deployment to sensitive areas such as banks, schools, hospitals, private property, among others.
The Commandant said this during the training of 120 private guards from 28 companies in the state.
Declaring open the three-day training organised for registered private guard companies to tackle insecurity, which held at Abiodun Sandey Hall, Area ‘A’ Command, Iyaganku, Ibadan, Adaralewa said that it should be from supervising agencies, especially the NSCDC that was established to do so.
With the theme: “Strengthening Private Guard Companies for National Security,” he harped on the importance of security consciousness on earlier warning and early response signals for security providers, in order to curb crime and forestall crisis.
Adaralewa, who was represented by his second in command, Femi Ete, a Deputy Commandant, said that it was necessary for guards supervising sensitive beats, where different types of individuals visit for one activity or the other, to alert law enforcement agencies on any infraction suspected or noticed for necessary action.
In her welcome address the Head of Department, Private Guard Company, Oyo State Command, Afolashade Adegoke, a Deputy Commandant, encouraged the participating guards not to be ashamed of their job, saying that they were important persons to be reckoned with in the security sector of the nation.
She added that their contributions could not be underestimated, hence the need for them not to compromise on the task given to them.
According to her, “security is everybody business to ensure peaceful and safe society.”
In his comment, the Chairman of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN), Mr Seyi Alaba, appreciated the NSCDC for its proactiveness in training guards and strengthening the standard of private security in the country, as it is being done in other parts of the world.
“Your welfare and renumeration will be looked into by the Association, come 2022,” he assured the trainees.
