A vehicle loaded with with two AK-47 rifles, four AK-47 magazines, 1,098 live ammunition, two pistol magazines and two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) has been intercepted by operatives of Kano State Police Command.
The interception, made on Thursday, May 19, 2022, was sequel to an intelligence report that received by the command of an ash colour Mercedes Benz car coming from Jigawa State to Kano and conveying sophisticated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
Confirming the interception on Saturday, May 21, the command’s spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said that the state Commissioner of Police, Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, on getting the report, immediately raised a crack team comprising Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological Radiological and Nuclear Defence (EOD-CBRN) and Operation Puff Adder who went after the suspected car.
According to the PPRO, at about 4:30pm, after a hot chase, the suspects abandoned the car at Bubbugaje Quarters Kumbotso Local Government Area and escaped.
“A technical search conducted by the team revealed that the motor vehicle was fully loaded with Improvised Explosive Device materials,” Kiyawa said, with two AK-47 rifles, four AK-47 magazines, 1,098 live ammunition, and two pistol magazines also recovered.
Saying that an investigation had commenced, the PPRO added that the police commissioner expressed appreciation to the state government, residents, sister security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), among others, for their prayers, encouragement, continuous support and cooperation.
The police boss urged residents to continue to be vigilant and report any suspicious person(s), item(s), movement or incidences to the nearest police station.
CP Dikko also enjoined them not to take laws into their hands, assuring that round-the-clock visibility patrol and raids of criminal hideouts and black spots would continue throughout the state.
He said that the command would sustain the ongoing “Operation Puff Adder” that had been yielding positive results.
