Commissioner of Police in Kwara State Command, Tuesday Assayomo, has ordered full investigation into the murder of an auto spare parts dealer, simply known as Abdullahi, followed by lawlessness
at Alapa/Oko Olowo/Oloje axis of Ilorin on Friday, May 20, 2022.
Chaos broke out when a suspected hoodlum and hemp seller reportedly shot the spare parts dealer to death.
According to an eyewitness who craved anonymity, an argument had ensued between the hoodlum and Abdullahi when he refused to ‘settle’ the former.
The hoodlum was said to have stabbed Abdullahi, but realising that it was not effective, he brought out a gun and pumped bullets into him, resulting in instant death.
Angry at the act, some residents of Oko-Olowo reportedly mobilised themselves to the scene of the incident, brandishing dangerous weapons, which made people to scamper into safety.
Traders around the area also closed their shops quickly while commuters had to make u- turn to avoid being casualties.
The police commissioner, in a statement by the command’s spokesman, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, decried the lawlessness exhibited, saying that it must not be encouraged.
The PPRO also said that the Commissioner of Police, aside ordering full-scale investigation into the matter, had also dispatched policemen to the affected areas to restore calm.
He added that detailed investigation report would be made available to members of the public as soon as it is ready.
Residents of the affected areas were advised to be cautious as they go about their lawful businesses, and should report any untoward activities in their area to the police as sanity is gradually returning to the areas.
