•Restricts purchase of fuel into vehicles to N10,000 maximum, stops log movement by trucks
The governor of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has suspended weekly cattle markets across the state, with effect from Wednesday, September 1, 2021.
The suspension forms part of the measures taken by the government to address security challenges in the state, according to a statement by the
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahmed I. Matane on Tuesday, August 31.
The governor also approved that any vehicle carrying cattle into the state must show its waybill and evidence of the origin where the cattle were purchased and their destination.
The sale of petroleum products in jerry cans or any other containers at filling stations in the state has been banned also.
Other security measures taken included restriction of purchase of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly called petrol, to N10,000 maximum at a time, with all filling stations directed to strictly adhere, while they should be wary of vehicles or motorcycles coming for repeat purchases.
In addition, the government has suspended the operation of trucks carrying firewood/timber across the state.
Another measure taken involves all motorcycles being allowed to operate from 6:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m only across the state.
Saying that the government was cognisant of the inconveniences the measures would cause the people, the governor pointed out that the decision was taken in the overall interest of the state.
The government noted the degree of carnage and mayhem bandits and Kidnappers were causing to some parts of the state and condemned it in strong terms, reiterating its continued determination to rid it of any security threat.
“Government is calling on the people of the state to be very vigilant, security conscious and report all suspicious characters, movements or objects to security agents,” the governor urged, adding that security is everybody’s business, and that all hands must be on deck in complementing government’s efforts toward safeguarding lives and property of citizens.
The government also directed security agencies to ensure effective and strict compliance and enforcement of the measures.
