A Lebanese, John Greg, has been arrested by Lagos State Police Command for hitting a pedestrian, Omotomi Akinsanya, resulting in serious injuries to her leg.
The incident reportedly occurred when the Lebanese was on high speed while driving a Toyota 4Runner SUV recklessly and against traffic on Sanusi Fafunwa Road, Victoria Island, on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at about 7:45am.
People had to run helter skelter for their lives, as the impact was so much that the number plate of his vehicle fell off.
After he hit the lady, pinning her to a wall, the Lebanese was said to have sped off, but was chased by a sympathiser who mounted a motorcycle to go after him.
The Lebanese was caught up with, brought back to the scene and handed over to the police at Victoria Island Division, Thenewsbearer learnt.
Confirming the arrest in a tweet, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Thursday, May 5, said that the suspect was already in police custody, while the vehicle had been impounded and was in the police station.
Hundeyin also said that the victim was undergoing treatment at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), and her family informed.
He added that the Embassy of Lebanon had been duly notified, stating that an investigation was ongoing.
The PPRO said that the police had already taken him for alcohol test, with the result to be presented in the court.
