The governor of Oyo State, ‘Seyi Makinde, handed over 31 various medical equipment to the management of the Ring Road State Hospital, Adeoyo, Ibadan, on Wednesday, May 28.

The governor said that the delivery of the equipment was in line with his administration’s vision to elevate specialist hospitals like the Ring Road State Hospital, to the standard of University Teaching Hospitals.

This, he said, will be in the area of training and healthcare delivery through the provision of necessary medical equipment, which will aid the delivery of sound medical service to residents of the state.

Executive Assistant to the Governor on Administration, Rev’d. Idowu Ogedengbe, who represented the governor, said the procurement of the medical equipment followed an assessment of the Ring Road State Hospital, Adeoyo, during a medical outreach by the Christ Compassion to the Rural World in 2024.

He noted that the mission could not use the state hospital to carry out surgical procedures and operations due to the state of the facilities at the hospital’s theatre.

He stated further that the equipment delivered to the hospital were of the best quality and were carefully selected to ensure that their reagents and other consumables were available and affordable.

He said: “We are here today to officially hand over 31 different pieces of equipment to the management of the Ring Road State Hospital, Adeoyo.

“This is in line with the vision of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde, which is aimed at elevating specialist hospitals like the Ring Road State Hospital, Adeoyo, to the standard of University Teaching Hospitals like the University College Hospital (UCH), in the area of training and health care delivery through the provision of necessary medical equipment that will aid the delivery of sound medical service to residents of the state.

“The procurement of these medical equipment by the office of the executive governor came on the heels of the assessment of the Ring Road State Hospital, Adeoyo towards serving as one of the hospitals that were to be used to carry out surgical procedures and operations during the last medical outreach organised by the Christ Compassion to the Rural World, which took place in December, 2024.

“Due to the state of the facilities at the operating theatres, the hospital could not be used during that exercise.

“So, the governor thought it necessary to make sure that the hospital is not only equipped ahead of similar collaborations between the state and prospective partners, corporate organisations as well as religious bodies in the future, but also to ensure that the Ring Road State Hospital becomes a centre for surgical excellence, providing comprehensive medical services to the good people of Oyo State.

“According to the Africa Research Connect, Ring Road State Hospital, Ibadan serves as a pivotal healthcare institution, not only as a centre for patient care, but also plays a significant role in medical research and education.

“It has contributed to various studies that explore critical health challenges, including mental health, geriatric care, and public health concerns.

“The research initiatives undertaken at Ring Road State Hospital reflect a dedication to improving health outcomes and understanding the complexities of health issues faced by the Nigerian population.

“While thanking His Excellency for this kind gesture, let me use this opportunity to appeal to the management and staff of this hospital to please make the best of these equipment by putting in place a good maintenance culture that will ensure that they are preserved, last long and very durable.

“Thankfully, the equipment procured are not only of the best quality in the market, they are very modern and have been carefully selected to ensure that their reagents and other consumables are available and affordable. They will last long.

“Let me also use this opportunity to thank all the stakeholders that made today’s event a success. From the Chairman of the State Hospital Management Board, to the Director of Medical Services as well the Chief Medical Director, management and staff of Ring Road State Hospital, Adeoyo, Ibadan.”

Earlier in his remarks, the Chief Medical Director, Ring Road State Hospital, Adeoyo, Dr Oladipo Aremu, appreciated Governor Makinde for his impact in the health sector.

The CMD said that the delivery of the additional equipment would enhance the hospital’s services and also alleviate challenges in providing quality medical care services for the people of Oyo State.

In his goodwill message, the Director, Christian Missionary Foundation, Dr. Olatunde Oladoyinbo, lauded the governor for creating a functioning and effective system in the health sector.

The event had in attendance the Chairman, Oyo State Hospital Management Board, Dr Akin Fagbemi, represented by the Director Medical Services, Dr Olufemi Adesanya; and the Permanent Secretary, Hospital Management Board, Dr Anifat Ibraheem, also represented by Alhaji Akeem Tanimowo, among other dignitaries.
