Wednesday, April 15, 2026: Ibadan — The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, and Florence Ajimobi have denied allegations linking them to a purported plot to impeach Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
The denials followed claims that the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, was approached with inducements to initiate impeachment proceedings against the governor.
According to reports, the controversy began after the Assembly’s Chief Whip, Gbenga Oyekola, alleged that Ogundoyin had been invited separately by both the Olubadan and Ajimobi’s widow, where he was allegedly offered financial incentives and political opportunities to support the move.
Ogundoyin, however, acknowledged that he was presented with “juicy offers” but said he rejected them outright, stressing that no money exchanged hands and reaffirming his loyalty to the governor and the ruling party.
In response, Ladoja dismissed the allegations, explaining that his meeting with the Speaker was purely consultative and held weeks earlier, during which Ogundoyin sought his blessings for a future governorship ambition.
Similarly, Ajimobi denied any involvement, describing the claims as “false” and “baseless,” and insisting she neither convened nor attended any meeting aimed at destabilising the Oyo State government.
The situation has sparked political tension within the state, with some lawmakers suggesting that external forces may be attempting to create division within the Assembly ahead of future elections.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress rejected allegations of involvement, characterising the impeachment claims as a distraction and political narrative.
The controversy continues to generate reactions across political circles, highlighting growing rivalries and speculation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
