In its continued onslaught against the activities of criminal elements in Zamfara State, police tactical operatives deployed to Mada axis, in a joint operation with the vigilante group of Hayin Daudu Village and its environs, brought down 10 suspected bandits after an exchange of gunfire on Monday, May 24, 2021.
The joint operation engaged the felled suspects in a gun duel at about 11pm in the night, after it responded to a distress call received from the village that armed bandits, in a large number, stormed the area with the intent to attack the residents.
Police image-maker in the state, SP Mohammed Shehu, said in a statement on Tuesday, May 25, that the bandits, armed with sophisticated weapons, engaged in the gun duel with the joint police/vigilante operatives, resulting in 10 of them fatally hit by bullets.
Others were said to have escaped with possible gunshot injuries, according to the PPRO.
Shehu said that normalcy had been restored in the area, while the police engaged in confidence-building patrol to forestall further attacks on the communities.
The Commissioner of Police, Hussaini Rabiu, who commended the collaborative efforts of the vigilante and other partners in crime fighting for their resilience, urged them to sustain the tempo.
