Nemesis caught up with three armed robbery suspects on Saturday, June 19, 2021, when they got involved in a ghastly motor accident while escaping with a Toyota Camry car they snatched at gunpoint in Ondo State.
They were promptly arrested by operatives of Ogun State Police Command, after receiving information on their suspected criminal voyage that led to the accident.
One of them, Emeka John, died while receiving treatment, while the other two, identified as Sunday Emmanuel and Idris Ibrahim, also sustained injuries.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the suspects were coming from Ondo State, heading towards Lagos State, when they hit a culvert and somersaulted at a point in Ode Remo as a result of dangerous driving.
Confirming the story in a statement on Wednesday, June 23, the command’s police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that the occupants sustained varying degrees of injuries, and were rushed to hospital by the policemen from Ode Remo divisional headquarters.
The PPRO stated further that while they were in the hospital, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ode Remi division, CSP Fashogbon Olayemi received an information that the vehicle involved in the accident was snatched at gun point by the accident victims.
This, Oyeyemi said, made the DPO to order that they should be placed under arrest in the hospital.
The owner of the vehicle who came from Ondo State told the police that he was accosted on the road by a gang of five men dressed like policemen, and that he was dragged out of the car at gunpoint and the vehicle was taken away.
The PPRO said that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun had ordered that the suspects be taken to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, for onward transfer to Ondo State command where they would be prosecuted.
