A dispatch rider, Emmanuel Samuel, was on Sunday, July 11, 2021, arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command while absconding with the motorcycle given to him by his company to dispatch their goods.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the suspect was arrested after he was stopped by the policemen from Ogere division while they were on routine patrol of their area.
According to the police spokesman in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement on Monday, July 12, 2021, the policemen, who stopped the suspect on the motorcycle demanded for the documents of the bike, which the suspect produced on the spot.
But while going through the documents, it was discovered that the motorcycle was registered on July 12, 2021, which indicated that the motorcycle had been registered before it was bought.
This, the PPRO said, aroused the suspicion of the policemen, which led to the rider being taken to the station for proper interrogation.
“On interrogation, he confessed that the motorcycle was given to him by a company in Yaba, Lagos State, which employed him three days before as a dispatch rider.
“He stated further that he decided to run away with it, the reason he forged the registration documents and number plate for the motorcycle,” Oyeyemi explained.
The confession was said to have made the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ogere Division, CSP Abiodun Ayinde, to get in touch with the company’s manager.
The inquiry led to confirmation that the company had been looking for the suspect in Lagos, and that he deliberately removed the tracking device from the motorcycle.
The PPRO said that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, ha ordered the transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, from where he would be handed over to the state command, where he would be prosecuted.
