Two suspects who decided to push God aside by robbing at a branch of the Redeemed Christian Church of God on Monday, June 7, 2021, have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command.

The names of the suspects were given as Fidelis Francis, aged 28, who resided at Udem in Cross River State, and Lukman Jimoh, a 40-year-old residing in Akure, Ondo State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said on Wednesday, June 9, that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Sagamu divisional headquarters, CSP Okiki Agunbiade, got a call at about 2am, on the said day, that a branch of the Redeemed Christian church Of God, located at Sagamu GRA was under attack by suspected robbers.

Oyeyemi stated that the call made the DPO to mobilise his men and the local vigilante men to the scene, but found that the robbers had escaped through the fence before their arrival.

Undeterred, the operatives started combing the surrounding bush, during which they sighted a Lexus Saloon car with registration number KJA 469 EP, parked at a get-away position not too far away from the church, the PPRO further explained.

He said: “The operatives, who suspected that the vehicle might have been parked by the suspects, mounted surveillance in the area, waiting for who would come for the vehicle at such an odd hour.

“After waiting patiently for about five hours, the two suspects came. While trying to move the vehicle away, the policemen swooped on them and got them apprehended.

“On searching the vehicle, two iron bars similar to the ones recovered at the scene of crime were recovered from it. This further increased their suspicion and the two men were taken to the church, where the CCTV footage was played and the two suspects were seen as they were breaking into the church.

“Having seen the video evidence, the two suspects were left with no alternative than to confess to the crime.”

Commending the operatives for the display of professionalism, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, directed an in-depth investigation into the case, after which, he said, the suspects would be charged to court.
