Operatives of the Force Intelligence Bureau–Special Tactical Squad/Tactical Intelligence Unit (FIB-STS/TIU) have arrested two suspects in connection with armed robbery, kidnapping, illegal possession of prohibited firearms, and criminal conspiracy in Taraba State.
The arrest was made on Sunday, May 29, 2022 while the operatives were acting on intelligence, Thenewsbearer learnt.
The suspects were identified as Abdulrahman Ba’u aged 35, and 50-year-old Ahmadu Amaru, both from Gassol Local Government Area of the state.
Disclosing this in a statement on on Friday, June 3, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi stated that the two suspects were found to be in possession of a locally-made revolver gun, military camouflage uniforms, three rounds of live ammunition, three operational swords and hard drugs suspected to be Tramadol and Rafenol.
The FPRO said that Ba’u and Amaru confessed to being responsible for the series of kidnapping and banditry in Taraba, Gombe, and Adamawa states.
They also reportedly admitted to the kidnapping of one Malam Wanzam of Iware Village in Taraba State.
This was just as the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, charged operatives of the Force at various levels to embrace the use of native intelligence, and information and communication technology (ICT)-driven approaches to combat the trend of crime and criminality that seem to defy traditional patterns of policing.
The IGP also emphasized on active engagement with the citizens at the communal level which he described as a key to major crime-busting successes recorded in recent times.
In addition, he stressed the importance of strategically deploying technological assets such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), upgraded road-to-base operational vehicles installed with high-tech communication and reporting features, and technical intelligence apparatus.
The IGP assured that all criminal elements would be dealt with by law enforcement agents, saying that the Force was committed to the general safety of lives and property of all Nigerians.
