Policemen attached to Eagle-Net patrol team in Delta State Police Command on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 arrested two suspects, Oti Shevire (32) and Amos (surname unknown), who were accused of kidnapping.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the police operatives were on visibility patrol along Effurun roundabout, Warri, on the said date , at about 1:45pm when they saw a large crowd beating the two suspects.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, who confirmed their arrest, said that the policemen rushed to the scene to rescue the men and on inquiry, it was discovered that they were suspected kidnappers.
According to the PPRO, a woman accused the suspects of kidnapping her 17-year-old son earlier same day.
“When interrogated, the two suspects confessed to the crime and led the policemen to their hideout, where the victim was rescued and is currently receiving treatment.
“Suspects are in custody and investigation is ongoing,” the spokesman said.
Also, on Friday, August 19, at about 8:15am, police operatives attached to Dragon 26 and Dragon 29, while on intensive stop-and-search duty along Warri/Sapele road, intercepted a Volkswagen Jetta commercial vehicle with registration number PTN 242 TA, conveying some passengers from Sapele to Warri.
The patrol team subjected the passengers to a search, during which a locally-made cut-to-size gun loaded with two live cartridges were recovered from one of the passengers, identified as Aaron Uko aged 22.
The suspect reportedly concealed the gun in his body close to his private part, it was gathered.
Preliminary investigation revealed that he bought the gun in 2018 from a man nicknamed ‘Ose’ N27,000 and buried it in his house before leaving for Ghana.
He was promptly arrested and taken into custody with the recovered exhibits.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ari Mohammed Ali, however advised the public against jungle justice, saying that those found to be doing so would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
