•Dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed
The Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State Command, Ayuba Elkana has deployed search-and-rescue team that has been mandated to work in synergy with the military, to ensure the safe rescue of the 73 students of Government Day Secondary school, Kaya, in Maradun Local Government Area who were abducted by armed bandits on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at about 11:22am.
The abduction has also prompted the government to order the closure of all schools, both private and public, across the state.
In addition, the state government also imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew, starting from 8pm to 7am.
Thenewsbearer gathered that the armed bandits, who rode on motorcycles in a large number, stormed the secondary school and started shooting sporadically, during which the students were taken captive.
The state governor, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, was said to have broken down in tears on receiving the news about the abduction of the students.
He was at the State Government House situation room receiving updates from the security agencies who were on the trail of the criminals so as to rescue the victims and avoid loss of lives or any injury.
Confirming the abduction in a statement by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammed Shehu, the Commissioner of Police was said to have appealed to the general public, especially parents and relatives of the abducted students, to exercise patience and continue to pray for the success of the ongoing rescue operation.
“Security has also been been beefed up at Kaya Village and environs to forestall further attack on the communities.
“Further development will be made known to members of the public,” the PPRO stated.
It will be recalled that last week, security agencies arrested the 2019 campaign coordinator in Shinkafi Local Government Area of the state, Senator Kabiru Marafa, for allegedly supplying logistics to the bandits.
